This page attempts to list those software tools which may be of interest to researchers or practitioners in the area of online collaborative learning. If there are others you'd like to see listed, please email details.

Software Products

AskOnline Lets students connect from anywhere, any time with your tutors. With AskOnline, you keep control over your program, your tutors, your students, your vision.

Blackboard  offers a complete suite of enterprise software products and services that powers e-Education infrastructure for schools, colleges, universities and other education providers around the world.

 

BSCW (Basic Support for Cooperative Work) enables collaboration over the Web. BSCW is a 'shared workspace' system which supports document upload, event notification, group management and more.

Collaborative Software Development Laboratory Provides a physical, organizational, technological, and intellectual environment conducive to collaborative development of world-class software engineering skills. This is provided by the Department of Information and Computer Sciences University of Hawaii.

CollabNet CollabNet solutions enable software teams to collaborate on development within an enterprise, integration with business partners, and adoption by customers. This site also contains papers on the use of the software.

Comanche is a high performance platform for prototyping collaborative web applications. The Swiki / CoWeb is built on Comanche's framework. Comanche is an open source project, with support from numerous active users.

Firstclass is a communications platform which helps educators further bridge the digital divide between schools and communities by providing them with a barrier free communications tool to collaborate, respond and share information more efficiently and effectively.

 

Google Docs and Spreadsheets is a free web-based word processing and spreadsheet program that keeps documents current and lets the people you choose update files from their own computers.

Groove is an online collaboration tools for sharing drawings, graphics, text, etc

iManage, Inc. is the leading provider of business collaboration software for
supply chain and collaborative software solutions for ecollaboration.

Knowledge Forum, based on software previously known as CSILE (computer supported intentional learning environments).

Lotus Notes R5 is state-of-the-art e-mail, calendaring, group scheduling, Web access and information management -- all integrated in an easy-to-use and customizable environment.

 

MentorWare  provides application infrastructure services that enable eLearning and knowledge management for customers and partners.

 

Moodle is a software package for producing internet-based courses and web sites, and is part of an ongoing research and development project designed to support a social constructionist pedagogy for students, teachers and developers.

 

Pathlore Learning Management System (LMS) is a single, integrated presence based on standard technology platforms that will fit with existing infrastructure. LMS enables you to assess, plan, deliver, manage, and improve e-Learning.

 

PHProjekt is a modular application for the coordination of group activities and to share information and documents via intranet and internet.

Swiki is a collaborative hypertext environment that works with the Comanche web server. Anybody can create and edit pages on a swiki web site. Swiki is open-source freeware implemented in Squeak

Synergeia is designed to support collaborative knowledge building in classrooms of schools. It provides a shared, structured, web-based work space in which collaborative learning can take place, documents and ideas can be shared, discussions can be stored and knowledge artefacts can be developed and presented.

 

Teamwave is an online collaboration tools for sharing drawings, graphics, text, etc

 

The Learning Manager (TLM)  is an easy to use, scalable, web-enabled, integrated system that facilitates the development, delivery, assessment and management of e-Learning using intranets or the internet. It has extremely powerful and flexible assessment features. 

 

TopClass  is a complete web-based training solution for the delivery and management of online training.

 

Usability First™. This website provides information and resources for key issues related to usability in website and software design. Groupware is any type of software designed for groups and for communication. This section provides a general overview of groupware, computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW), and associated design and usability issues.

VA Software Site contains many software tools such as Sourceforge Enterprise Edition. This is a Development Intelligence solution that will help you align application development with business goals.  

WEBCT  is a family of products and services to support educational transformations at many levels: the course, the department, the campus, and the entire learning community.

 

WebBoard is a message board solution for corporations, educational institutions and organizations looking to build online communities with ease.
